OLIVER McGOWAN

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is a government-endorsed program designed to enhance the skills and knowledge of health and social care professionals. Its primary aim is to ensure the delivery of safe, compassionate, and informed care to individuals with learning disabilities and autistic people. This initiative was established in response to the tragic death of Oliver McGowan, a young autistic man with a learning disability, which underscored the critical need for improved understanding and support within health and social care services.

Training Structure:

The program is structured into two tiers, each comprising two parts:

1. Part 1: eLearning Module

Content: Provides foundational insights into learning disabilities and autism, covering effective communication strategies and the implementation of reasonable adjustments.

Duration: Approximately 90 minutes.

This will need to be completed before attendance on Part 2.

2. Part 2: Interactive Learning

Tier 2 Training: A comprehensive one-day face-to-face workshop, also co-delivered by experts with lived experience and a subject matter expert facilitator.

Tier 2: Intended for professionals directly involved in providing care and support to autistic individuals or those with learning disabilities.
